Description of cover
Permanent and temporary issue military kit insurance
Worldwide cover for permanent and temporary military kit is automatically included in our policies for armed forces.
You can insure your issued and owned uniforms and kit for up to £7,500 wherever you are in the world. This automatically includes cover for temporary issue service equipment that is on personal charge to you. There is a limit of £1,500 for any one item.
Cover does not include wear and tear or damage caused during cleaning or maintenance. There is a £50 excess for this cover.
This section can be extended to include £20,000 Licence to Occupy liability if you occupy Service Family Accommodation.
Home contents insurance
Forces Plan is designed to automatically provide £60,000 of cover for your household contents, but this can be increased or decreased to meet your personal requirements. If you live in barrack or single living accommodation, for example, you can choose a lower amount.
You will be insured for loss or damage by the usual 'insurance causes' such as fire, flood and theft. And unlike many home insurance policies, Forces Plan automatically includes accidental damage without extra charge.
Other benefits automatically included are worldwide removals and storage, lock replacement, credit card liability, and alternative accommodation for your family and pets.
Household contents will be replaced on a new-for-old basis. These include furniture, fixtures and fittings, personal effects, valuables, entertainment equipment, and garden furniture.
The maximum limit for valuables is 25% of the contents sum insured, with an individual item limit of £1,500 for any one valuable which has not been specified on the policy. There is no additional charge for specifying items on the policy.
Notable exceptions to home contents insurance include accidental damage caused by pets, mechanical or electrical failure, and chipping, denting or scratching to furniture while it is in transit or storage.
There is a £50 excess for home contents insurance.
Even if you live in barrack or single living accommodation, don't forget that you may still need cover for household items such as television, microwave, bedding and stereo. See contents hints and tips for more information.
Personal possessions insurance
This includes worldwide cover for personal items that you normally take away from the home such as clothes, mobile phones, MP3 players, laptops, sports equipment and pedal cycles. It does not include any money or credit cards but it does include valuables.
There is a £50 excess for each claim (£75 for canoes).
If you are insuring your home contents, the amount of personal possessions insurance you choose should cover the maximum that you might take away from the home at any one time, including holidays. Otherwise, this should be the value of all your personal possessions.
Personal accident insurance
This cover is no longer available for new policies with effect from 01/08/11. If you already have a policy which includes personal accident, this will continue but you will not be able to increase the amount of cover.
If you or a member of your family has an accident which causes serious injury or death, Forces Plan can help ease the financial strain.
Personal accident insurance automatically covers you for most leisure sports (including winter and extreme sports) plus flying as a crew member, hang-gliding, gliding or ballooning. It only provides cover for injury or death which has been caused by unforeseen accidental means. Further details of cover and exclusions can be found in the full policy wording.
There is a £50 excess for each claim.

Unlimited cover for frozen food in your home. This option will automatically be included if you choose £60,000 contents cover. There is a £50 excess for each claim.
Choose from a range of cover up to £2,000 per cycle. Unlike most other policies, Forces Plan automatically covers all the bicycles in your home up to the limit selected. Cover is not included for theft of bicycles left unlocked in the open. There is a £50 excess for each claim.

A range of options to suit your personal requirements. Spectacles will automatically be included if you choose £60,000 contents cover. There is a £50 excess for each claim.
Public liability insurance
£2 million public liability insurance is included automatically. There is no excess for this cover.
Licence to Occupy liability insurance
If you live in Service Family Accommodation, you will have signed an agreement called a Service Licence to Occupy Service Family Accommodation. This agreement says that from 01/08/11 you are liable for any damage to your property up to a limit of £20,000 - regardless of whether you are legally negligent.
Most civilian tenant's liability insurance will not cover you for this amount and will only pay if you are found to be legally negligent. This means that sometimes you will not be sufficiently covered and will still have to pay for the damage.
The Forces Plan Licence to Occupy liability extension has been specifically designed for people in military accommodation, so you can be assured that it will provide enough cover for your needs. There is a £50 excess for this cover.
Family Legal Protection
In the event that you are involved in legal proceedings, Forces Plan includes £25,000 cover per claim to pay for legal costs and expenses anywhere in the world. This is automatically included when you choose £60,000 contents cover. There is no excess for this cover.
Family Legal Protection is provided by Arc Legal Assistance Limited.
Forces Plan automatically includes a free and confidential telephone helpline which offers legal advice on any personal or domestic legal problems.
If trouble strikes at home (burst pipes, blocked drains, electrical faults, even wasp's nests), Forces Plan includes a free helpline which will arrange for an approved contractor to sort out the problem as soon as possible. You will remain responsible for any call out charges, parts and cost of labour.
